Welcome to the Speakeasy
Well done, citizen. It looks like you found the secret entrance to this gin joint. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a few of the cast’s favorite cocktails. Just… keep an eye on those moths hanging above the door.
Classic Old Fashioned
2 oz. bourbon
1 teaspoon of sugar (or 1 -2 tsp of simple syrup)
3 dashes of Angostura bitters
1 teaspoon of water
Add all of the ingredients to a mixing glass, and stir well until the sugar dissolves. Add ice, and stir again to chill before straining into a rocks glass.
Garnish with an orange twist, and a cherry that’ll increase your charisma score no matter your sex drive
Black Walnut Old Fashioned
Looking for something a bit more unconventional? Try this sweeter twist on the classic:
1 1/2 oz bourbon
1/2 oz. of nocino (black walnut liqueur)
2 dashes of dark chocolate bitters
1 teaspoon of water
Add all of the ingredients to a mixing glass with ice. Stir until chilled, then strain into a rocks glass.
Garnish with a with another charismatic cherry.
Last Word
3/4 ounce gin
3/4 ounce green Chartreuse
3/4 ounce maraschino liqueur
3/4 ounce lime juice
Add ice and all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Shake until chilled, and strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with a cherry—bonus points if it’s a brandied cherry.
Dark and Stormy
2 ounces Goslings Black Seal rum*
1/2 ounce lime juice
Ginger beer, to top
Add the rum and lime juice into a shaker with ice. Shake to chill, and then strain into a glass. Top with ginger beer, and garnish with a fresh lime wheel.
*Yes, technically, it does have to be this specific rum—or at least a dark rum. But we here at Dread and Breakfast are big fans of culinary creativity and experimentation, so use whatever rum speaks to your soul. We won’t judge.
Shirley Temple (NA)
1 oz. grenadine
Lemon lime soda (Sprite or 7Up are preferred) OR ginger ale
Add the grenadine to an ice-filled glass, then top with your fizzy beverage of choice. (Some people say lemon lime soda, some people say ginger ale… follow your heart and your taste buds.)
Garnish with one, two, or a handful of maraschino cherries.
Homemade Lavender Lemonade (NA)
Makes 10(ish) servings
4 cups water
Butterfly pea flower tea leaves
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 cups cold butterfly pea tea
Lavender simple syrup, to taste
1 3/4 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice
Add the 4 cups of water, tea leaves, and sugar to a pot. Bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Continue to boil for 2-3 minutes. Strain out the tea leaves, and let cool.
In a large pitcher, take your cooled liquid and add the 2 cups of cold butterfly tea. Add the lemon juice. (And, much like our favorite moths, watch the liquid turn a lighter shade of purple! The more acidity (lemon juice), the lighter the color will change. SCIENCE!)
Add the lavender simple syrup, to taste. If you wand more sweetness without the lavender, you can use regular simple syrup here as well—or just plain ol’ sugar.
Serve out of a fancy drink dispenser, loaded with ice and fresh lemon slices.
